La 73esima edizione dei Directors Guild of America Awards 2021 (DGA Awards), che riunisce i registi statunitensi, ha premiato i migliori registi di film e TV sabato sera.
Quest’anno i DGA Awards 2021 vedevano i candidati Lee Isaac Chung per “Minari”, Emerald Fennell per “Promising Young Woman”, David Fincher per “Mank”, Aaron Sorkin per “The Trial of the Chicago 7” e Chloé Zhao per “Nomadland”, gareggiare per il primo premio di regia per il cinema. Premio vinto da Zhao con il suo Nomadland.
Sul versante televisivo, “The Queen’s Gambit”, “Homeland” e “The Flight Attendant” hanno vinto i premi principali, scuotendo la corsa verso la stagione degli Emmy.

DGA Awards 2021 – Alcuni retroscena
Il premio DGA Awards 2021 è spesso considerato un campanello d’allarme per l’Oscar al miglior regista. I recenti vincitori del DGA Awards 2021 che si sono ripetuti agli Academy Awards includono Alfonso Cuarón per “Roma”, Guillermo del Toro per “The Shape of Water”, Damien Chazelle per “La La Land” e Alejandro G. Iñárritu per “The Revenant” e “Birdman o (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)”. Tuttavia, il vincitore dello scorso anno, Sam Mendes per “1917”, ha perso contro Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite”) come miglior regista agli Oscar.
La regista Betty Thomas ha ricevuto il Robert B. Aldrich Achievement Award della DGA per il suo “straordinario servizio alla corporazione e ai suoi membri”. Il Frank Capra Achievement Award è andato a Brian E. Frankish, mentre il Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award è andato a Joyce Thomas. Paris Barclay ha ricevuto il premio come membro onorario a vita dell’organizzazione.
